Festivals are celebrated in the month of Chaitra (March-April), the first month of the Hindu calendar. It indicates the end of winter and the arrival of spring. It was observed on 20 March 2018. However, for this the ritual began the next day of Holi.
The festival was celebrated in Jaipur with pomp and penitently. Women wearing their best garments and ornaments pray to Goddess Parvati for the welfare of their husbands. On the last day of the 18-day celebration, the traditional procession started from the place of the Palace Palace – Devadi. The procession was with elephants, palanquins, chariots and folk performances. It passed through Tripoliya Market, Top Chopper, Gangauri Bazar, Chogan Stadium, before convergence near Tal katora.

Gangaur festival starts next day of Holi. Some rituals are followed during the 18-day period:
  • wheat seeds are sown in pottery. They are given water until the seeds sprout. These grass is used on the last day for worship.
  • Women make clay sculptures of Shiva and Parvati and decorate them with flowers in the basket.
  • Newly married women fast for all 18 days. Unmarried girls fast one day with one meal.
  • On the seventh day, unmarried girls take pottery made with lamps on their heads to seek blessings from the elderly.
  • Dessert (Sinjara) is sent to married daughters before the festival.
  • Festivals are marked off with statues immersion and breaking of pottery.
